Sheer ice glazed
Across emotion,
Barely insulating.
Fragile
Wind crusted blanket
Covers her fear.

Breath held,
Ears strain
For the footfall
That will obliterate
The silent snow
Of her waiting.

The moisture
Of her heat
Swirling upward,
Suspended
In the frigid air.
