Would that I could shrug off the year so easily
And sleep...
To wake again in spring
With patchwork hope in place of this tired mud
That pushes through like grass through melting snow.

I want to see, I want to believe
As the Swallow understands
A narrow boat
Might offer passing scraps of food.
But promises slip away
Downstream
Unfulfilled
And leave the water muddied,
So that for a time
Stirred up silt
Clouds
The silver dart of fishes
From my eyes.

Grabs you
