New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS
happy for a plate of beans
happy for the doughnut
at 5 a.m. and the chance
to sweat rice pudding
on Sunday.
happy for the coins
in a loose pocket
happy for cardboard shoes.
happy for the river
happy for the sun
happy for the trees
and the scratching out a hole
in the side of life ...

Re: my gym teacher's philosophy of life
Also experienced the psychotic "Gym Teacher."
The refusal of water, the running til puking, the forced taking of salt pills.
It was abuse. Pure and simple.
Once looked down at my 12-year-old arms and saw salt encrustations, the salt rejected by my better-knowing body...

Re: Response to a Daughter Who Has Yet to Set Sail
You can only love them, and push their little boats out to sea.
My daughter is the love of my life.
I got her through IT (long story...) and guided her TO it.
And now she's THERE.
My work here is done.

Response to a Daughter Who Has Yet to Set Sail
I know. But
there will be
restrictions
limitations
stupidities
inanities
insanities
insults
offenses
struggles
mind-numbing boredoms
disgusts
revulsions
hatreds
impossibilities
lonelinesses
longings
angers
gut-wrenching idiocies
mindless rudnesses
and bitter encounters
wherever you go.

Thanks, Ton--
Starting re-working this last night ((top version), think it might be gettiing a bit bloated, though, from going through my word-pile and looking for things to add to it.

I hope it’s worth it, this dying inside.
Beer salt tobacco and then a moment
of hunger—flour and fat's dour tickle.
My ovaries are crippled, my eggs
no good. I was life, the ball and
feather falling multi-crumbled
in the language of entropy, babies
so terrible they’d suck murder

Re: and that's why
I honestly think it succeeds very nicely in being itself (and think will go over big time at a reading).

Re: peeling an onion -- all rights deserved
I think the writers at The Onion are among the best currently working. Right up there with the people who wrote for the late/great Colbert Report.
