Re: judih and gadi remembered
I've lost a lot of people over the years, as I suppose we all have - but I don't think any of them stirred me quite the way October 7 did. The closest I can recall was the morning the space shuttle Columbia was announced "overdue" at the Cape landing site. I know a little about orbital physics, and ...

Re: Newborn
thanks - there's something magical about watching these big static things we call "trees" coming alive each year about this time - and all the little green things pushing their way up through the leaf litter. And it's a coordinated effort - like an orchestral score. May it always amaze, & never beco...

Re: Bizarre— conversation with an AI bot
Oh man, I hear you about the fear of cognitive decline - I find that if someone asks me out of the blue for a name, a word, a date, anything requiring recall, I'm apt to stammer & lock up. Just yesterday I was writing something and thought the word "disabuse" would be the perfect choice - but I just...

Re: Bizarre— conversation with an AI bot
I see what you're getting at - but isn't "everyone" considered grammatically singular, even though it refers to a group? We don't say "Everyone are havng a good time" (I don't, anyway). And the word "group" itself is singular, even though it refers to a plurality of indifiduals. You're right - it's ...

Re: Bizarre— conversation with an AI bot
I'm not ready to say that the bots are actually "thinking" - I did enough programming back in the day to see how enough "if... then else..." clauses might create the appearance of an intelligent reaction to very specific stimuli. For example, I maintain a log of my photographs, with a brief descript...

Re: Bizarre— conversation with an AI bot
"Brave New World" indeed. Would have been interesting to see its response to the phrase "uncanny valley"... I'm taking care of my ex's dog while she undergoes chemo & its aftermath, and maintaining a kind of diary so she can keep abreast of our activities and be assured that her dog is doing well. H...
Re: dream on
saw, wd, thanks been dreaming about work a lot, or at least that's what it feels like when I awaken. I can't remember details, just the Vibe - familiar faces, feelings, even the office layout (with some creative additions)... and it's always my penultimate job, not the last one. Which doesn't surpri...

Re: Cancer Warrior....Version Three
visited my ex this sunday our daughter flies home soon and besides she & her hubby miss their dog so off we went (dog and I) an hour's drive to suburbia where people pee indoors and share backyards... cancer (and hair) gone (for now?) but so is her her immune system to be grown anew from a stranger'...
