Arcanum is gone... Goodbye to an era

Post by Doreen Peri » June 6th, 2017, 12:45 pm

It was a long run! How many years? Almost 20, I think. Founded in 1998? Something like that. Anybody know?

Good site! I'll miss it!

I was there (though only sporadically toward the end) for almost 13 years. Hard to believe.

I know, right? ... I have to research how to save and archive all the data in case there comes a time when I can't keep Studio8 going. And there WILL come a time... I'm already at least 5 versions behind in software updates. I don't have the skills to update it or the resources to pay for it ... I'm surprised it still works!

Anyway.... I'd love to save the data and host archives should there come that time... but I don't know how ... YET..

Many thanks to Joe for Arcanum Cafe!!!!

It was GREAT while it lasted!

I was fairly active there for about the first 9 years (2004- 2013), but not nearly as much for the last 4 years-- after the site slowed way down. I'll definitely miss the place, even if I was an infrequent visitor toward the end.

Oh ... I see what you meant now. :)

Yeah, I went there less frequently as time went on, also.

Great community! Lots of good writers and passionate discussions & debates. I'll remember it fondly.

Long live memory of The Blue. I was there for about 10 yrs, I think, & found it the most congenial writers' site I'd joined to date. Because I tend to compose offline in Notepad or Word, I didn't lose much - but all those exchanges in Open Discussion... gone. I thought Molochai had taken over the reins, but apparently not.

Yeah, after Molochoi offered to save it all, he came upon hard times - personal/financial and that scenario fell through.

too late for discussion - Joe said his final goodbye.
what's the name of that site that stores cyber data?
we used to use it to search for litkicks discussion boards...

I went to Arcanum a couple nights ago and it was gone. :( I am glad your site is still here Doreen. I can't believe my user name and password still worked here - been a long time!

Sasha ... glad you saved your writings!

Judih ... I think you're talking about The Wayback Machine site. There will be some archives there but it won't be complete.

Renee .... Great to see you! Glad your log-in worked! Welcome back.

This is the link to The Wayback Machine internet archive site.

https://archive.org/web/

Unfortunately, it looks like there's a robot.txt file at Arcanum that has kept it from being archived. Maybe it will appear later.
