The trust funds run surpluses in that the amount paid in by current workers is more than the amount paid out to current beneficiaries. All the talk about running out is because the trust fund is full of I.O.U.'s the government issued when it raided the funds to support the general federal budget for things like perpetual war.

ten -four earned it. Social Security it is an insurance program, not an entitlement program. Politicians with smooth hands from easy money want to extend the age of eligibility to 70 because Americans are living longer, 70 year old politicians are not seventy year old rod busters. Hard labor like playing professional sports takes more of a toll on a body than working a desk job.
