Re: Summer's End to Autumn Transition Jam - HERE!
Here we had a cool spell in the eighties. For two mornings, the temps were
in the late fifties. So, a cool respite in Chattanooga, TN from the heat of
late summer. Leaves are already beginning to turn and to fall a little on
the more heat sensitive trees. For example, our tulip poplar has dropped some leaves and our dogwood trees have berries turning red and the leaves are starting to turn. The earliest I can remember since 1967.
So let the clouds cover and the rains come again. Lately we've had only
one rainfall in two weeks. So, kind folks and gentle people, the ground and
the hummingbirds are getting thirsty. We have two pairs of hummingbirds
at our hummingbird feeder...They love the succulent flowers in our garden
and the nectar in the feeder...HMMMMMMMM! go dem birds...

Summering down,
fall's familiar face
appears
neath treeleafs.
Madame shadow,
with her compelling
light,
changes the meaning
of everything.
Faultlessness lingers
thick enough to touch,
powerlessness deep,
in crevices of finality;
yet the leaves dance,
sun turns golder,
secret confessions
rule the world.

indian summer marches on
and so do we,
banking on it all
rolling around again.
somewhere up ahead
on the calendar
the trees leak leaves
sap sinks south, birds
check out. no big deal,
another turn on the wheel.
somewhere up ahead
on some page
of the calendar
a picture of a small room
where death plays her
small guitar
just for me.

Happy September-ring everafter
Autumnal fluorescence
Death wears her prettiest dress
Fire and Death
Falling leaves
Burning leaves
Here we go round...

The unmentionable odour of death
