Steve Plonk's new Chat Spot forum
Steve Plonk has had a chat thread called "Chat Spot" going on for a while in his Column forum... so we decided to move it up the page so more people could find it.
Come join Steve for some chat right here in the new Chat Spot forum:

Re: Steve Plonk's new Chat Spot forum
Doreen, I've gotten used to being the moderator of the "Chat Spot"--way before being a separate compartment within the Discussions Forums. Can we see how it works out? Seems to be working so far..."Chat Spot" lets people be spontaneous on various topics & is unique because it is one thread & so on...People can "chit chat" about problems or solutions or just any funny thing which comes in their head. People can change the subject--kind of like in one's living room. General Discussion does that, too, but has separate threads...
Then, after a time, Doreen, et al, if you decide to make it a STICKY in the General Discussion, because it overlaps too much, I guess I'll relinquish being a moderator. How are your feelings on that?

Re: Steve Plonk's new Chat Spot forum
No, but now it's an entirely separate forum and people can post additional topics if they want. I can look into how to block new topics but I don't know how it's possible right now. Maybe there's a way to do it.
That's why I had the new thought this morning to keep it as ONE topic inside the Discussion's forum and STICK it up at the top of the page. We could rename it "Steve Plonk's Chat Spot" ... to retain your ownership of it.
If we keep the Chat Spot as the new forum, the only way to stop people from posting new topics is for me to figure out if that's possible to block new topics. I'll look into it to see if there's any way to do it.
If not, you will have multiple topics posted by multiple people.

OK.. this is Doreen.
I fixed the settings so that members cannot start a new topic. There are in a Chat Box now... limited to one thread.
Hope that helps!
(Thanks to neologistic to directing me to the spot to change the settings)

PS.. I think you should be able to start a new topic if you want, as moderator... not sure if you can see the New Topic button or not. But those who aren't moderators of that forum can't post a New Topic... they have to post to the thread or threads you establish.

Thanks both to you, Doreen, and to Neologistic for stabilizing my "Chat Spot".
Once again, everyone is welcome to chit chat about whatever comes to mind...
Small talk, large talk or just talk...we'll try to keep it cordial & hope everyone
else will, too. Here's the link again:
