Did the Georgians think they had our approval for the attack on Ossetia?
Well it would make for a nice conspiracy theory.
Karl Rove said that a terrorist attack would help the Republicans.
In two thousand and four a week before the november election Bin Laden came out with a video that helped George W Bush a lot, swung a lot of votes his way they say.
So this invasion has been a god send for mcCain. Don't tell me I am not paranoid.

Yes it would be pretty stooooopid, but then again Georgia has a street named after George W Bush in their capital city. So how smart can they be?You need a fact check here, truck
it's a perfect analogy
Georgia didn't attack Russia. How stoopid would that be?
Georgia attacked South Ossetia which had voted to become independent from Georgia.
I think the vote was like 90 percent in favor of independence. Most of the population of Ossetia is Russian. Russia had moved in troops to Ossetia calling them "peace keepers" But really they were trying to provoke Georgia to attack and that is the mistake.
Georgia Launches Major Assault on South Ossetia
Comment from Matthew Clements, Jane’s Eurasia Editor
London (8 August 2008) Georgian military forces launched a major attack on the separatist region of South Ossetia on 8 August in the most serious outbreak of fighting in the region since the 1994 ceasefire agreement that ended the secessionist conflict.

WASHINGTON - Following a series of provocative attacks in its secessionist region of South Ossetia late last week, Georgia launched an all-out attempt to reestablish control in the tiny enclave. Russia then intervened by dropping bombs on Georgia to protect the South Ossetians, halt the growing tide of refugees flooding into southern Russia, and aid its own peacekeepers there.

THE acute phase of the crisis provoked by the Georgian forces’ assault on Tskhinvali, the capital of South Ossetia, is now behind us. But how can one erase from memory the horrifying scenes of the nighttime rocket attack on a peaceful town, the razing of entire city blocks, the deaths of people taking cover in basements, the destruction of ancient monuments and ancestral graves?

This war did not begin because of a miscalculation by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. It is a war that Moscow has been attempting to provoke for some time.
