Found Art - Photographers' jam session
Come one, come all - share your photos of "found art" with the Studio. Landscapes & portraits are nice, but there's something special about those little details that become abstract art when isolated from their surroundings...
I'll kick this thread off with a snapshot taken in a rich vein of abstract imagery, a cluster of abandoned (or nearly so) factories on a back street of Winchendon MA, not far from my home. I'd exposed many rolls of 35mm film there over the years - this is one of the first digital images from my then-brand-new Canon xTi, repeating a shot I'd made on Ektachrome slide film years before:

Re: Found Art - Photographers' jam session
Not exactly visual art, but art nonetheless - there's a private nature reserve a mile or so from my place, accessed from a rail-trail. The land owner is evidently a translator of contemporary Russian & French poetry, and has nailed laminated copies of poems to trees along trails he's blazed through the woods. One in particular, on an old hemlock, caught my eye - "Word of a Tree", by J P Rosnay - single-click the image to expand.
FWIW, here it is in situ:

Re: Found Art - Photographers' jam session
like paintings, exactly - these photos even seem to echo what I've seen of your own visual style - painting with the light... If I painted, I suspect they'd look a bit like my photos, too - blocks of color, intersecting lines, curves....
I'm fascinated by the forms and vibes of derelict structures. I've got hundreds, maybe thousands, of photos taken around and inside empty houses, abandoned paper mills, old warehouses... there's just something about the quality of the light, the silence (or not), the smells...
old machine shop, Winchendon MA
old auto repair shop, Keene NH
American Tissue Paper Mill, Baldwinville MA
American Tissue Paper Mill - pulping vat
I got inside the main pulping vat through a maintenance hatch near the bottom. The reflective ceramic walls made for some spectacular acoustics within the enclosure, with weird other-wordly echoes that went on forever. Sadly, this was several years before I had the Tascam recorder, and the mill has since been razed, something I discovered on what was to have been my 6th shoot inside the place. It was like losing an old friend.....

Have always ben intrigues by abandoned buildings....I can't help but imagine what it was like when thriving
You have a good eye for that stuff, roy
First pick is the Eiffel Tower I took at night in 2009
Second one is what the HVAC guy threw on the ground after replacing my 1914 boiler
Third is a " petrified heron "....HaHa.....from a hike a few years back
Fourth is Debris floating in Dundee Creek......I have many of these.....will post more later

Re: Found Art - Photographers' jam session
Spectacular night shot of the tower - used to take my 35mm camera out on wet nights when I lived in a more urban neighborhood - now I'm at least a half-hour drive from street lights...
I think pic #3 fell through the bit drain - maybe reload it? (It took me longer than I care to admit to understand Studio8's photo upload feature well enough to repeatably use it...)
