What Is Music for You?

Post by Lightning Rod » October 2nd, 2004, 10:30 am

as a person who plays music more than he listens to it
I relate to it as a spiritual exercise, something that takes you to the moment
When you play music, especially improvised music, you are forced into the now
you have to be able to turn on a dime. It's a great exercise in 'going with the flow'

For me, music is yoga.

What is music for you?

listening to music is comfort...i don't listen to much new stuff, not because i don't think it is good, but moreso because i don't need it...i have enough warmth in the blanket my stand-byes gives me

playing music is a struggle, because it doesn't come naturally to me...piano i have to memorize...guitar is easier for me, but i don't have much skill...mandolin is work because i have to translate guitar-to-mandolin as i play...harmonica is fairly natural, although i play it very poorly in its naturalness

but both provide me a hideaway
