touch of evil

Post by constantine » March 11th, 2008, 8:02 pm

they say that the moon is for lovers
that it strokes and caresses
and only has eyes for you,
but not tonight,
tonight the moon is full
jaundiced
yellowed fingers trickle
bone on bone
down your xylophone spine
cat arched, razor on
piano wire tense
who can you trust in this bordertown
their smiles are smirks
their smirks are leers
the grin of the piranha with
the cold blank stare of the shark
they come at all angles
you can't figure it out
it's dangerous when that happens
and it happens quick
you see the gypsy through the storefront
sister dahlia
knows your weight in gold
she sees the future,
"it is most disturbing..."
the present ain't looking too good either,
you fucked with his sister
it'll cost you plenty
as the darkness opens like a coffin
it was only a matter of time

it was only a matter of time?

set me in mind of this bit from Ecclesiates
"time and chance happenth to them all"

it is always just a matter of time before
the darkness in the darkness opens like a grave
whether you fuck with anybodies sister or not

I liked the poem
spooky
I know the feeling
From walking in the ghetto in washington DC
Or up on North Avenue in baltimore.

yeah, baltimore's my hometown. north ave.'s rough. lot of rough spots. necessity forced me into a lot of neighborhoods that i wouldn't be caught dead in now - but still, home is home.

it may be blood-curdling, but it's home
i guess some people might think that's a description of my hood.
but really, it's mostly wheatfields and endless dawns sprinkled with birds that truly chirp.

great poem, constantine
