jump day

Post by constantine » March 20th, 2008, 6:40 am

early morning
relentless necessity drove us from our beds
crossing the dmz at madison
we maintained the masquerade
sliding into the alley, spilling out
behind lester's, our sickness
was his sickness,
living under the same agenda
the bio-rhythm of narcotics
in an ecosystem peculiar to ourselves
today is jump day
the heat needs no reason, no profile
necessary, a hunter's paradise
weeding out the unfortunates
chlorinating the gene pool
search and seizure - on a whim,
capsule in my mouth
stash in her body suit
always carry liquid, mouths
have been known to dry up
autonomically
you feel them before you see them
trust your gut
and you'll live to do it again tomorrow
something told me not to use his gizmo
his smile - too wide, the offer
made too quickly in a world
where nobody does nothing for nobody
shakey died of aids a few months later
i was proud and boasted of my savvy

I knew a girl who died of AIDS once
I think her name was Sharon Needles
