blue hank

Post by constantine » December 19th, 2008, 5:25 pm

hey hey mama
can your daddy come home
beer soured up on me
and my money's all gone
there's a rainbow in an oil slick
somewhere
town's pulled out the plug
but i got me a jug, tonight
dogs howl with the sirens
coughing up blood
blue handkerchief last xmas
how'd you ever know
you should share your premonitions
when did i fall out of grace
when did the saltwater freeze
sometimes, the asphalt sparkles
like the southern cross
and the railroad tracks seem to join
in the distance, but they never do
no matter how far i walk

the first part is drunken ambition
to come home to your woman and where is that?
second part is about railroad tracks not joining,
in the distance, no matter how far you drive.
I can see them, not quite joining.

When you get home
hide her sewing kit before you go to bed.

Nothing to do with your poem
Sorry about the non sequitur
Just an old wives tale
about a man who would come home drunk
and beat his wife until the day she

just over the horizion of my consciousness I am sure the tracks will meet

a gem of a poem
it packed a punch for me.
thank you for writing

Another masterful verse by a great poet. You ended it perfectly. I dig your jig.
