cassandra

Post by constantine » February 28th, 2010, 8:34 am

she's less than half my age
and sits next to me in ancient history
i find myself leaning towards her
angling in my seat
i can smell her hair, and she looks
good in her burgundy sweater
cassandra, i believe you
every word you say, though
you say little, incidentals
like what page are we on
or what does οικοσ mean
and i take these tokens
and i run with them in my mind
and i'd like to ask her out
for a coffee, maybe
for lunch, but where would we go
what could i possibly say
that she reminds me of high school
of soft skin and the purity of youth
like some virgin priestess of apollo
i worry that i smell of tobacco
and brush the ashes off my pants

she showed this time
as a Jo March
wearing gipsy airs
in a generation XXX kind of dialogue
(she has the power of the creepy smile)
I gave her my wave
& my later!

we question our age as if too old is too much while
our attraction to others never grows old or out of fashion
our self-consciousness constantly on guard against folly
how many opportunities to grow go missed because of age
at an age that should finally know better than before..?

i enjoyed this piece very much, D.
