fushigi!

fushigi, the magic orb!
mesmerize your friends
confuse your enemies
the chicks dig it!
fushigi!
no matter what age, you can do this!
with maneuvers like:
the Levitation, the Enigma,
the Conundrum within the Enigma
and so many more...
it's here...it’s wild... it’s sweeping the nation
unlock the secrets of...fushigi!
therapeutic - profound!
therapeutic in its profundity
profound in its therapeuticality
did i say that already?
no matter!
fushigi!!
what is the secret behind this spherical device?
what makes it do the things it do - did - does?
by a process known as contact juggling
fushigi appears to defy the law of gravity
but, let's face it
we are bound to this material world
by laws that refuse to be denied
thus, if you live on this planet
gravity is going to keep you here
whether you like it or not
if this were not true
the people in the southern hemisphere
would be sliding off the planet
and, by virtue of centrifugal force
we would be flung from the earth's surface
to hurtle hither and yon - this way and that
like nobody's business
so let's not kid ourselves
fushigi is not some anti-gravitational device
let's get that straight from the beginning
but that in no way diminishes its coolness
fushigi!
the only thing more mystifying than fushigi
is two fushigi!
it's mathematically exponential!
it's like a ball spinning clockwise
within a ball spinning counter- clockwise
thus creating an inner tension that manifests itself
in ways that you can't begin to predict
and therein lies the wonder!
sort of like a spheroid frisbee or an ovoid boomerang
stuffed within itself like an inverted manicotti hermetically sealed
now you see the ricotta - and now you don't
it's still there - it ain't going nowhere
it's an abracadabra type situation
but, my paltry analogies and verbose descriptions
fail to convey with exactitude the magnitude of its attitude
you simply have to see it for yourself
that's the problem with language - a system of symbols,
be they syllabic or pictographic
the chinese prefer pictographs - this is true
while our lexicon is based on phonemes - no more, no less
for one, i prefer the phonemes
but, i must confess, the chinese are in the majority
so, if we put it to a vote
the phonemes are outnumbered by a significant margin
and the pictographs win - hands down - no contest!
but that in no way means that we should abandon our lexicon
for after all, it has served us well
should we rewrite shakespeare?
of course not!
that would be silly
it would be like scratching captions under ancient egyptian
gone is the wonder and mystery of their culture
gone the glory of those ancient scribes
who labored with hammer and chisel
sometimes for decades, to record
the exploits of cheops, akhenaten, tutankhamen
not to mention hammurabi, that noble
and oft-times misunderstood babylonian
maligned by the assyrians, but beloved by his subjects
be they aramaic, semitic, or hamitic
but wait, cuneiform is not pictographic
i got confused for a second
no matter! easy to rectify
i'm back on track now!
fushigi! the magic orb!
comes in three colors
black within white
white within clear
and black within clear
i know, some would argue:
hey dino!
white, black, and clear are not true colors
get your shit straight
white is the totality of color
black the absence of color
and clear is just clear - not a color per se
point well taken
allow me to rephrase
fushigi!
comes in three visual configurations
subject to the law of refraction
and the law of gravity -
while appearing otherwise
fushigi! only $ 12.99 at walmart
maybe more somewhere else

I love the angular momentum of this piece dino
the tangental spin
and you are right, the pictograph will rule, they are drawings of memes
plus they say that the typical pictograph conveys the same amount of information as five English sentences and those smart-phone screens are small. The I Ching is sort of like the morse code of pictoraphs. Trigrams and syllables like soft landscapes.

thanks amigas and amigos! hi lrod - yes, i agree - a pictogram has more mnemonic value. read an interesting book entitled the memory palace of matteo ricci that sort of deals with the meeting of the jesuit - ricci - with chinese culture of the late ming dynasty. ricci adopts the pictogram as a vehicle to explain his system of mnemonics - the construction of memory palaces.

Real or not, I am wanting a fushigi or two. Sounds like it might be as hypnotic as the magic window. I am going to google it. You best not be fooling with me. You had me hooked from the beginning.

Remarkable, energetic creation. Probably better than its subject. jim
