larry k

there is solace in mystery
i tell myself, though
it would be nice to see you again
the passage of years
has not diminished the memory
of evenings spent commiserating
passing the bowl till it sizzled
outrageous, the jokes - the banter
remember
it was in high school that we met
spent a five on oregano, rookie
you said
fine for pizza but still a burn
out of such things the future depends
and then, i wonder
so useless this idle speculation
how life has treated you
a woman - married?
perhaps,
perhaps not
we had bad luck but things change
things always change sometimes
so slowly we don't notice sometimes
so abruptly we lose track
friends reduced to guest appearances
cameo roles in the double feature
are you alright?

everone we touch along the way becomes a fiber in the knotted rope that is our life...that keeps getting longer each day, each braid a story about where we came from, and why....... we are who we are......happy new year doctor d......
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

This New Year’s day think
about the people you will
never see again.
