yesterday's news

Post by constantine » April 16th, 2011, 7:38 am

death takes the fun out of life
sometimes, i don't even shave
tortured by anxiety, waylaid
by the encroaching inevitable
death takes the fun out of life
and there's nothing you can do about it
you can write the iliad - the odyssey
and rail against the the coming of the night
but it arrives like yesterday's news
and there's nothing you can do about it
death takes the fun out of life

Well said. Death does take the fun out of life. But it also takes the pain, stress, worry, guilt, hunger, poverty, fear and all those other negative things that some people have to live with.

I used to fear death, now I quite look forward to it. I do fear a lingering illness, but a quick end would be most welcome.

Yeah, depression it is. But you made me smile with that comment. I did like your poem. I am simply in a blue funk and having a hard time clawing my way out of it.

i feel like i know how it is - depression has always been a problem with me. age adds a new dimension to an old phenomenon. but, we are certainly not alone in that - though it feels like we are.

one can assume that there is a taste of humor in this, but you cannot miss the bite of truth that is inevitable, and that awareness could make one wonder, why bother......and I would concur with you that Dr. Death is an ominous fellow....
so what do we do ?....the answer is obvious.....PARTY!
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

i concur with the party thing, but the retreat into hedonistic pleasure - though appealing - runs counter to the asceticism that i've been cultivating ever since my penis fell off.
