too many rats in the box

too many rats in the box
under normal circumstances
rats can co-exist and prosper
sure, there are turf battles
territorial what-nots
sex squabbles and food-fights
but, generally speaking
rats are pretty civilized by our prevailing
mammalian standards and conventions
but,
and i cannot stress this enough
but,
if you have a box of rats
an enclosed community, if you will
and you start cramming more rats
into the box, you will eventually reach
a level - a rodentia saturation point
that disrupts, not only their social cohesion
but the laws (innate, or otherwise)
that govern their day to day intra-species affairs
in other words, things get pretty ugly
bickering occurs - of course
that is to be expected, but
the general mayhem that ensues
though understandable
is still unacceptable - even to rats
and that's saying something, personally
i draw the line at cannibalism
a practice that does and will occur
in that cardboard ghetto rat box situation
too many rats and what do you get?
rats on the fritz
rats gone wild and even wilder
until they aren't even rats anymore
