Showers to showers and more showers still.
I've never known a spring like this.
I've had my fill of dark and dreary days.

I saw the caterpillar sunning himself
on the lawn chair, a brief break between
storms, signaling the change.
The next day I heard the news.
That was yesterday.
OH NO! I screamed,
what happened?
He's gone, I was told.

Twelve birds played fly tag in my yard.
I never saw anything like that before.
They dove and wove, wings fluttering.
It reminded me of the time he and I played
piano together, a wild duet, fingers weaving
in and out with each other improvising
life music.
I loved that kid.
He was only 23.

I know the caterpillar was him.
I know the birds were him
coming to say goodbye.

I can't write anything
no matter how hard I try.

offered with love
with compassion

signs
less brutal

i think
i think
i think it will
carry forward
many people do it everyday
but unconsciously
spontaneous expression everyday
was texting someone the other day
when it was over i went back thru it
to find a specific piece of the conversation
i'm looking at the whole exchange
when i realized ...
it was JAM capital J e.g. -

Her: I will sleep good tonight
Him: Yeah, you'll be tired
Her: It's been a full day
Him: Ain't they all?
Her: True
Him: Bean is dreaming
Him: Running
Her: He is a man among men
Him: A prince, a real prince
Her: A King of New England
Him: And he has no mother

... not composed by any one person
but composing itself
on the spot
to meet a need
to fill a need ...

not only using words
but using rhythm the same way
inside & outside your door
24/7
to the left
to the right
all day
all night
inside & outside your head
my head
everyone's head

Greatest jammer?
God.
"In the beginning
was the Word
and the Word
was with God
and the Word
was God - John 1:1

the Beat ~~~~

YEAH!
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

It rained for a million days,
even more than during the big flood
only this time, the rain wasn't meant
to drown us, it was only supposed to
keep the flower roots saturated and
mix with our tears. We never saw that
much rain in years and we're feeling guilty
'cause wildfires are spreading elsewhere
where there's a drought and if we could
only figure out how to share the rain, we
would.

Larkspurs, black-eyed susans
Daisies are blooming--irises & azaleas
Are winding down...
Showers came last night
Riffled through the bowers

Now old sol, the sun, is
Warming the air as
Birds chirp & skinks scatter
Lee, our cat, scampers onto
The back porch, gets onto
Her favorite porch bench
Purrs up some more morning dew &
Sunshine, while sparrows come singing... :)
