Quiet is my new girlfriend
a welcome relief after the din
of someone's bottled breath
she likes to stay out of the way,
her absence of noise envelopes
me like a longed for lover's touch
she swaddles me in her peaceful nothingness,
her calm demeanor is understated
like pastel brushstrokes on the canvas of contentment
I never pace the floor in anguish
like those old days of trying to decipher
slurred speech from someone I thought I knew
and it's not that that is all I want in life
I dig my family and friends, I revel
in their laughter and symphonic voices
but when all my guests have headed homeward
Ms. Quiet and me
well....we go upstairs
Ms. Quiet

Re: Ms. Quiet
Being alone has its advantages. I'm a big fan of quiet. There are so many people living here, I find my quiet in my solitude in my room. Of course, I haven't totally eliminated the occasional slurred voice.
Re: Ms. Quiet
thanx for the comments 68, shadow, irish, doreen....and yeah doreen even before the stress of living with an alcoholic, I have always needed alone time....when i was very young ( and the world was safer )...I'd throw my knapsack on, and head alone into the woods....Saturday mornings I might be gone for the day at 12 years old.....up before anyone else in the house began to stir....I'd be crazier than i am ( ha )...without quiet....hope you can find your moments of peace outside the house
