wrote this yesterday from my fold-up camping stool that I strap to my back when heading in for a day of peaceful reflection in the marsh....specifically the Black Marsh at North Point State Park....i have some secret bushwhack trails that take me into the heart of the life there...( Google it )
Marsh Magic
peaceful personification,
as many shades of green, gray and brown
as a mind could dream up, the marsh
is actually heaven.....a haven
for little and great blue heron and big bass fiddle bullfrogs
for snapping turtles and long emerald snakes
I am simply a humble visitor....
Susan actually wept when we first approached....
the majesty and eye seduction
was almost more righteous stimulation
that a mere human can absorb.....
we found a nice little spot to open our stools
settle in. and try to pretend we belonged there....
the exotic water plants and ospreys
continued their business of impressive display unconcerned
about two gentle humans that had come to pay their respects
not to the dead, but very much to the spectacular living....overcast
days are the best days in the marsh
the light is perfect perfection
I feel a oneness that words fall short from
I feel fortunate to know this place
wouldn't mind falling asleep here someday down the road
right on my camouflaged three legged stool with the little pocket for a camera
and not wake up
Marsh Magic

Re: Marsh Magic
Magnificent photo.
There are three contiguous nature refuges back-to-back around the confluence of the Millers River, Otter River, and Priest Brook in north-central MA. Two of them (Otter River SF & Lake Dennison rec area) offer facilities for camping and picnicing, including bathrooms and paved parking. (They also usually charge admission.) But the 3rd, the Birch Hill WMA, only offers solitude and remoteness, and is my usual go-to place to escape our world and join, if only for an afternoon, the Real one. That's where I experience the magic you write of. (It's also where I bagged the audio of the towhee; and just a day or two ago an alarm call I've never heard before.)
No matter how many times I've been there, I'm bound to see or hear something new....

Re: Marsh Magic
thanx for the details roy on the places near you and the way you feel when you are there...
more than ever we see the mess some humans have created.....all you need is 5 minutes of news to ruin your day, if you allow it.......so
heading out to the wilderness is a terrific way to counterbalance man-made madness ....
it would be cool if you could resurrect your letters and share your younger experiences
the rejuvenation in the marsh, the woods, the river trails etc. is like no other.....it gives a man a chance to breathe......To See
