And mine’s

Post by joel » May 28th, 2007, 12:50 am

And mine’s a single song and of it I
can’t faithfully recall beyond a verse
and even then I’ve only memorized
its chorus’ common core, three simple words:
I love you—even such I soon forget
and so I seek fresh harmonies again.
I’m worthless past this small confession, yet
it strikes me wonderful. I stand in debt
that you receive me patiently—that when
I vomit shallow honesties, you let
me spew intense intestine-routed chords
whose dissonance has all but mesmerized
my gutsy love’s simplicity: a hoarse-
drawn, hiccoughed, hackneyed lovesong frequent sigh.
