For wonders truly beautiful I’d wait
forever, if I trusted all the Earth
to last as long— but I’m impatient and
I’m nervous, so I settle for what’s good
enough— and not that it’s not good, but still
I’d pray for quietness to comprehend
what softer touch, what gentler ecstasy,
what more amazement-wonderment could be
if I would slow my breath and wait and tend
each heartbeat as in preparation. Will
I ever wait? I’ve ever understood,
yes, prudence is a virtue— one I should
embrace— but life’s too short and what’s the worth
of wonders true and beautiful and late?
For wonders truly beautiful I’d wait
For wonders truly beautiful I’d wait
