For summercamp, the men’s room showers

Post by joel » July 6th, 2007, 10:29 pm

For summercamp, the men’s room showers stand
exposed and naked, curtainless and free
for public exhibition: simple, grand,
uncomplicated and unhidden— no
more private, no more special than the boys
who, just as bare, present themselves to life.
Their faucetheads upon the wall, like four
more modest downcast heads, are nothing more
for furnishings than necessary—rife
enough in presence, loud enough in noise
and strong enough in fellowship that – though
the room seems barren, privacy seems banned
and commonality exalted – the
all-openness surpasses cleansings planned.
