1 Corinthians 11:23-26, 33 (a paraphrase)

Post by joel » July 6th, 2007, 11:11 pm

I pass along what Love was handed down:
that, on the night our Lord was handed off
for death, God lifted bread, gave thanks and broke
it, gave God’s self to all and said, “Take. Eat—
my body feeds you— eat. Remember me.”

This bread we eat, this cup we drink proclaim
our Savior’s death ’til Love is come again;
Loved, come together often, turn from sin
and share as one all faithful love the same.

And likewise after all had eaten, he
exalted high a cup, his blood. “Now greet
my testament: your sin forgiven,” spoke
our paschal lamb, “and drink it oft
in memory of me.” –that Love is known.

I drink his body at 7AM
or in A minor which is not even a key
I slurp his acronyms and testaments
I eat him like I eat the air

I breathe him like a memory of pentacost
velvet abandon of a tomb
nobody there but an angel playing solitaire
and a can of tuna fish
lonely as the resurrection
