to Her before her marriage

Post by joel » July 7th, 2007, 1:08 am

So not to pressure, but to nudge you I
extend my invitation to your time
already awkward (since your future seems
committed to another) – all the same,
I wonder if your mind has found some peace
to whisper back the echoes of our past
before the notion “inappropriate”
turns altogether more inadequate?—
I wonder if you’d grace me with a last
and lurid detail of my love, release
that verse I cannot write alone and name
for me reality that only dreams
of mine have haunted: tell me what sublime
mistake I made that somehow hushed goodbye?

this is great, especially the "hushed goodbye" part...
