Tadema drew me a picture

Post by hester_prynne » July 12th, 2007, 9:57 pm

Image

Tadema drew me this picture.
Greek hunky toga man,
reading Plato to a small crowd.

A past life in lithograph,
handpainted monochrome,
vintage grandma colors.

Rumor is that this picture,
traveled via boat from Italy,
in search of me.

I'm the woman reclining in those roses,
thrilled amongst heady, academic airs,
enrapt, mesmerized, maybe stoned.

We've hung on my various walls for years.
Glaring at each other in peripheral constance.
My very own private jiminy cricket.

Cost me a hundred dollars I shouldn't have spent.
Foraged out of a musty antique store.
Hidden in the bottom of a lesser pile.

I fell in love with it at first sight.
I've never really owned it.
It has, however, always been mine.

i want to be there
listening to the Republic
hunky and Greek

i want to be there
columned by the water
robes and roses interchangeable

i want to be there
at the bottom of the dustiness
aged and antiqued

(...hester, i love your thought processes and i am continually in awe of their expressed appearances....)

i want to be there
unowned and possessed
treasured on your wall

It's from Homer (not Simpson)

though most Royals rather
fancy the Republic, and da Classix. (Interesting Pic
& Pome, H: though maybe a few well-armed spanish--or pirate-- galleons out in the harbor might add a bit of realism). A bit too much zucker for
me (pic, that is) but marvelous technique.

Is it Homer or Plato? It's listed as Plato. But I knew there was controversy on that......

Thank you all for indulging me in this weirdness. I've had this picture for a long time, it's one of the few things I've lugged around, totally unable to part with. It's hanging on the wall now, in the new digs, and I thought it deserved to be acknowledged.
I'm in a really weird space these days, I feel really alone and at a beginning, yet old and finished at the same time.
