My mother told me.

Post by hester_prynne » August 17th, 2007, 7:15 pm

My mother told me,
"pick your battles,
fight your wars within,
let the Lord lead you to it,
or through it".

I got lost in the choosing.
Fought recklessly, selfishly,
took hostages;
fell in it, fell out, muddled through,
but now I get it.

I'll always be jobless,
scrapping,
tortured with uncertainty.
The obvious battle for me to pick,
is resistance to worry.
"I am a victim of society, and, an entertainer"........DW

Pardon the hillbilly music and ramble

my mother & my father told me
"work and then do whatever you want"
(tricky people!!!)
that´s why I always got a job
and like siestas
a bit more than I have to.

they also showed me
a lot of things without saying anything,
I keep dialoguing with them
from time to time.

my mother & father told me--
no, they didn't tell me.
my mother & father showed me:
put your heart into it
give it your all
and it will steal the moments you might have laughed with loved ones
and it will not appreciate your sacrifice
and you'll grow prematurely old
and you'll be told you're immaturely young
and it will kill you
but it needs to be done
and if you hear even the echo of your calling
even your most earnest and dire response won't be enough
but you'll not be you without it
and it needs to be done
and others will take up the banner of the martyrs
when you have joined the martyred ranks
so pray for mercy
be forewarned
and smile.
