They told me not to paint outside the lines
as if it were some type of horrible crime.
The critics said the faces that I drew
were horrible and childish and completely askew.
The old school art teachers told me I'd never succeed.
But I didn't care, I made my brush bleed
and painted the way I wanted to.
The know-it-alls didn't have a clue.
Hey, I'm Picasso.
This is MY show.
What the hell do the critics know?
Here's my advice to all who make art.
Just create it from your heart.
Don't listen to judgements and arrogancy.
And one day, you too, could be rich like me!
Rules are meant to be broken.
Picasso has spoken!

Re: Picasso
Picasso has spoken like fantasies Tolkien
had scribbled, but dribbled, my words are just tokens
of broken exceptions to rules and perceptions of old recollections
of Shakespeare's erections, but damn the directions I cook are confections
of hillbilly sonnets and bushwhacked elections
so why am I bothered if I'm bar'brawaltered by voices inside me?
My faith has supplied me with magic concoctions
that salve all the toxins that beatbox and clock me
from my birthright Catoctins to the pits of New England.
Don't you know where my mind's been? I'm not your old has-been.
I'm not the old husband out screwin' like nothin' the nubs of a shut-in
old elderly neighbor. That's not what I came for.
I'm not that rat-pastor, that shepherd of bastards,
the poet that blows it for Jesus when masters of power and priv'lege
take hold of the village
and say that the race is for those who run faster—
the winners are golden and slow
and I mail in their asses on passes of letters I'm snailin'—
and no maverick palin is ever derailin' the message I'm wailin'
in whining rhymes' cadence. Deliver my sentence
and judge me for being a voice the more freeing than rules I've adopted
and then if I drop dead
remind me again that Love's for me opted
in this rebel-dream op-ed.

We should not mind if on our ear there fell. Some less of cunning, more of oracle...Thoreau
