Some Penny Haiku, Part 3
"Don't Rock the Boat" Penny Haiku
By Steve Plonk
(a)
Kind & gentle folk
Don't rock the boat
We all gotta float...
War is disease
That needs elimination,
Let peace break out
Like flowers in the pavement.
Let's help the planet's vibration...
***
(b)
Kind folk, don't rock the boat,
We all live on float...
Let's set a new precedent,
Set 'em all reeling
With a new debt ceiling,
Agree that we need to
Fund each new emergency,
Paying as we go...
Let compromise reign
On the political landscape,
To escape more heartache...

"Peep-eye Penny Haiku Series"
By Steve Plonk
(a)
A Cat's eyes, like agate,
shine like glitter in a stone.
(b)
A Dog's eyes roll to where
the ball is thrown.
(c)
A Guinea Pig's eyes
shine like cherries in a jar.
(d)
A lizard's eyes shine like
diamonds in the twilight.
(e)
A baby's eyes twinkle like
stars in a nightlight.
(f)
A fawn's eyes shine like
garnets in the moonlight.

"Animal Penny Haiku"
By Steve Plonk
a)
Kitty cats smile
Their Cheshire smiles
Ply their feline wiles
To get a table nibble,
Or an early serve of kibble...
b)
Puppies grin their
Furry chins from
Ear to ear,
Whine & pant &
Don't relent,
Until food into
Their bowl is sent...
c)
Guinea pigs go
"Wheet, wheet, wheet!"
Scurry with their
Fuzzy clawed feet,
Until they get hay buds &
Parsley to eat...
d)
Goldfish in the tank
Go "Blub, blub, blub!"
Swim close to the top,
Until some fish food
Into the tank does drop...

"Paying as you go, Penny Haiku"
By Steve Plonk
(a)
We've got food on the table
A roof o'er our head,
We're alive & chooglin',
We're getting fed...
Sound off, bring it on down,
One, two, three, four,
One two, three-four!
(b)
All the world must be taxed,
The "good book" says...
As long as we take breath
We'll pay our fair share
And by & by,
we'll get Social Security, Medicare,
Or SSI, says I,
It's our money,
It ain't no "ponzi scheme",
It's part of the great American dream...
(c)
So, vote for the Democratic Party,
Which taxes us hearty...
Tell that GOP bunch,
That there's no "sech thang"
As a free lunch...
Show the GOP the door,
Tell 'em we wanna
Get what we pay for...

"THE AIRFORCE JET, PENNY HAIKU"
By Steve Plonk
Loudly roars the jet plane,
As it's streaking through the blue,
Thundering through the heavens,
To protect & serve you, too.
It's engines pushing forward,
It's crew alert & true,
Ever conscious of their task,
Of guarding all of you.
***
Fools, non-believers & doubters that be,
There is a God upon air, land & sea...
Prayers for John F. Kennedy...
Author's Note: Written 1961, Revised 1962, during the
"Cuban Missle Crisis", Retitled Sept. 2011.

"A LOST THOUGHT, PENNY HAIKU
Searching through to a lost thought,
Retrieving a lost thought,
I sat amazed
At the time it takes
To give advice,
Pondering only what
You would have done or
Would do if you were he--
But only a glimmer
Of his existence do you grasp--
Wondering, nestled near the
Wasted words,
You form them
With your mouth &
Watch them die/
Circa April 1975, Revised Oct. 2011.

WELCOME TO THE MID-SOUTH:
PENNY HAIKU SERIES
By Steve Plonk
(a)
There aren't any spoons,
Just a few sporks,
We have no babies
Brought by storks...
Storks are too busy
Tending the cabbage heads
Kids which grow in the marsh...
***
(b)
The winds & rains came &
We had a gully warsh...
Trees fell across the roads,
As moonshiners were bringing
Out contraband on gravel streets,
While kluckers rode around
Dressed in sheets--
Many were busted as undercover
Informants they trusted...
Good riddance to the whole bunch,
As they were taken to jail after lunch...
***
(c)
We are tired of homegrown terrorists &
Dope & whiskey runners down here...
Just once it would be nice to see
No news of meth busts, trailer explosions &
Child porn perverts being apprehended--
Just once it would be nice to have a quiet
Week where folks got along with each other,
No domestic violence & "looney tune" shootings...
(d)
Toleration is the key to much peace
Which could be at hand,
If people would just keep their hands
To themselves & their mouths shut...
Pot calls the kettle black all the time
Down in these parts...
***
(e)
Better not abort any babies,
But once they're born,
There is no social service funding...
Infant mortality is rampant...
There is a whole cemetery in
Memphis devoted to dead babies...
Ignorance is not bliss,
Many babies these parents miss...

"Lady Luck Penny Haiku"
By Steve Plonk
(a)
Some folks lives roll
Easy as rain,
Other folks lives
Don't roll,
Like hail, they fall,
Break down the stall...
(b)
Lady luck brings a saw buck,
But when twenty dollars,
Rings a bell,
Time is hard to tell...
So come by us, Lord,
That we may sell a tale,
A fable that rings true...
(c)
Leaves fall & winter
Encroaches the grass,
Everything turns golden brown,
Autumn soon will pass,
Luck & destiny sing with
Winds of storms,
Roses drop & we
Are left with thorns...
Icicles are formed...
(d)
Bare branches leave buds,
Honey locust leaves its pods,
For the harvest of new trees,
Osage orange leaves its fruit,
For the horses & mules,
Which when expelled
Grow new tree stalks,
As we go through autumn walks...
Charity begins anew
As the Salvation Army rings
Those holiday bells...

"Lady Luck Penny Haiku continued..."
By Steve Plonk
(e)
Lady Luck rides down
Our Neighborhood street,
Clothed in yellow spandex,
Waving to all passers by--
Her well-kept antique
Ten-speed rear bicycle
Wheels flap some playing cards
In the autumn breeze...
"Hoo Hah!" She exclaims,
"Take a chance with me!"
(f)
Our season of funnery is
Upon us & we all need a hit
Of holiday cheer & nonsense beer...
But we must leave this nunnery &
Partake of the open road,
That flashing mental highway expectation
Of company & plenty is awaiting,
If only for just a day or two,
So let the festivities begin!
