kisses

Post by joel » August 9th, 2011, 2:40 pm

When David went from Jonathan— his friend—
they kissed, each one another, and they wept
with one another
— likewise to the end
your love is more than other loves I’ve kept.

Elijah worshipped silence from a cleft
within a rock— a holy tongue that dry
would rather die than writhe— yet I have left
me every mouth which hath not kissed
a lie.

His mother: no. His lover or his wife:
no. Only Judas near to Jesus drew
to kiss
his face— and at the end of life.
But how would I betray a kiss by you—

who sings of righteousness and peace that pair
their lips to press the kismet kiss met there?
