gingerbread

Post by Glorious Amok » September 12th, 2004, 9:15 pm

she is gingerbread
still wet in the bowl
still wanting a stir.
find me a spoon that i may scoop her up
form her between my hands
press her against the sheets
bring her in to the transformative heat
stand her beside the window
and at last ... to taste.

I was struck by your piece.

It made me think of Gingerbread, the horse.

Gingerbread is Smarty Jones's roommate.

In case you don't know who Smarty Jones is,

that was the horse that won the Kentucky Derby this year,

and then ran away with the Preakness by fifteen lengths,

and just missed the triple crown at Belmont by a neck.

Helluva horse. Full of heart.

Anyway, being a high strung race-horse,

it helps Smarty Jones to have Gingerbread in the stall and

also doing warm-ups on the track. It makes Smarty run better

just to have Gingerbread around.

This is similar to my new job as doreens's assistant.

I'm sort of like Gingerbread. A great deal of my job is

to just make doreen comfy so she can go out and be a thoroughbred

(and she is a thoroughbred in her graphic design work, as well as her poetry)

anyway, P-jell, I liked your poem

just call me Gingerbread
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

K, I loved the gingerbread poem and in living color too! We are food for thought.

Lrod, I am Gingerbread too. I cried when Smarty just didn't make it history and won the Triple. I know he had it in him because he is truly great. I hope my thoroughbred makes history and I am there by his side all the way to the finish line and in the stall beside him after the race is done. And if he doesn't quite live up to others expectations, he'll always live up to mine. Loved this apt anology.
