trauma

i jet ski, but yet sea
holds a deep sunk dread for me
ever since, in a wince
i saw unc fred set free

by a shark. saw the spark
dim in disbelieving eyes
as his head went to bed
in the beast in galled surprise

and none too spry, and in reply
to my frantic futile screams
he vaguely muttered, gurgled, spluttered
'i'll see you in your dreams'

and so he did. he's now a squid
in the sea of my nightmares
where he lurks with his quirks
and sometimes comes in pairs.
