it was that spoof movie in around 62
with the beatnik poet reciting
in the beginning that planted the idea
that poetry was cool

and Dylan lyrics several years later
that really made the idea grow
Dylan obviously read Rimbaud

but it really was the Vietnam war
that made me want to put my protest
into a poem, it was what really
pushed the idea home

the Vietnam war tore America in half
anybody that had a brain
knew that that war was insane
and at eighteen I knew they wanted
to give me a gun and drop me off
in the jungle, and say go kill son

my mantra became, hell no I wont go
this child beatnik become hippie
became a subversive poet

oh oh, dominoes, little black squares with white dots,
if you set them up in a row and knock them
they will topple each other, otherwise known
as the domino theory

yeah that's the ticket that exploded

well look at those dominoes
those war mongers really know
but what did that famous marine
general say, " war is a racket"
and he did not mean noisy

the tail that waged the dog
