once was great

Post by revolutionR » March 31st, 2017, 10:46 pm

being born into a sick society
we walk like somnambulists
through bombed out buildings
horses running along old roads
how we came here through
the rain of pills and bills
churches no matter how many people
come to hear the word of god
are empty, god left long ago
once he realized he belonged
out in nature with the trees
the once great emerald forests
now wastelands of matchsticks
the once mighty mountains
now mole hills
the once expansive blue sky
now covered in a white blanket
the once star filled night
now like trying to look at heaven
through a newspaper cloud
the once pure rain of nectar
now a drizzle pf poison drops
the once great omnipotent ocean
now a huge puddle of garbage
the horses still running down lost roads
the books in libraries gather dust
words waiting for a century to be read
we are not any more sane living in an insane
world, the poets live among the killer sharks

sometimes I think of poetry as a blood sport.

just a gut reaction to your poem.
sharks are strange creatures
oviparous

thinking of some beat truck stops I been in out in the far west, some of them had bars and live music, trying to imagine a trucker's poetry jam

it still looks pretty good to the kids
some day the kids will take over
pretty soon we will all be green with an extra ear and three elbows
we are one with all that garbage

Herr Rev
please pardon the ramble
inspired by the thrill of your poem. 8)

A bit gloomy, but pretty well-said. And don't forget about all the fracking racking our lands. At least we get cheaper gas out of it. Hell, soon we'll be drinking that stuff.

Yes, things are pretty gloomy for the mothership rock. Planet rape is well underway and escalating. (That's why I said "well-said.") I like this. It gets right to the heart of the matter, the culture of consumeconsumeconsume-and-dump and all the aftermath.

we sleep-walk
sleep-talk, sheep-talking
of hiking up the hubris ridge,
mortgaged, debt piled high,
higher! sky isn't the limit,
we'll just pump it dry too
when we get there.

Faster, better, more.
MOREMOREMOREMORE.

Sleepwalksleepspeak
Sleepwatchsleeppray...
PrayprayPRAY
for the nirvana
of dominion,
the paradise
of more more
MORE MORE!
