'round the bend

if there were no bends
we'd see far too much at one time

it's the curves that give us hope
or ruin our career like a baseball player
trying to make some contact

the bends plant seeds of exploration
dreams of phantasmagorical tomorrows
better than the ones you had yesterday
like the waxed curves of a violin

we can only see one quadrant at a time,
like the silhouette of a woman behind a sheet
round, voluptuous, round
the bend
bend the mind

bend me like a Gumby all green and willing
surprise me
again and again
sorry if I bug you, but I can never go
straight
I have criminal intents to turn that corner

wondering
what's next
that's why men climb impossible mountains
because they are there
some men reach beyond the green grass of cliches
for the unimaginable colors, shapes and textures of
the unknown
