What is America

I think America is the poets
everything else is a sham
there are great people in America
but making America great...again
it like saying you can rise the Titanic
from the bottom the Atlantic
and say a prayer and it becomes
its former glory

it's the poets, artists, writers, real thinkers
that once was some greatness in this home
of the slave, history is not kind no matter
how much it lies, greatness is not held in lies
no matter how much the flag wavers die
no matter how the mothers cry when
johnny does not come marching home ...again
and the flag was still there, but who really cares
it never was about making great, it was about war

like my dad always said, one of the only things
I remember him saying, "he gypped my pants"
we have been jypped by USA the corporation
they don't teach you how to think in school
they tell you what to think, you see where
that has gotten us...like when they said separation
of church and state, that was great
but was it ever really that way
all wars are religious wars

backed by satanic banks
oh, America you are a war on your own people
you are still breaking treaties with the natives
this wonderful beautiful land was filled with
buffalo, with pure lakes rivers and mountains
now it has become a desolation,
a nuclear waste dump, a billboard forest
an air conditioned nightmare as Henry Miller said
or like the poet Bukowski said,
"humanity you never had it to begin with"

poetry is still the refuge of people
that know how to think, and why
Jack was jazz, what I mean is
Jack and jazz go together
great words and great sounds
making it great in the middle
of this great land that once was free
and the sky is not fake cloudy all day

'a war on your own people'... Yeah it's kind of been like that at times ...

Making war on anybody is making war on everybody.

I don't know why this is so hard for people to see.

there were reasons
that seemed justifiable
the crazy disappeared with that gift of desperation
like a smile that slowly took over your face
but was well deserved for having that faith
the decisions made a long time ago contributed to the flow of today
thank you thank you
i have no other words to say
even if the ones who did not approve
set out to mess with the groove
they will disappear no matter where they hear
the music
dance to the sounds that bring light and song to the bones
the tones of windlike flutes blew accross america
turtle island and all the natives sang the healing song
