Bukowski did not like Shakespeare

I agree with Bukowski
Shakespeare did not do it for me
his plays were too clever
but it's not just that
do we know who he really was

it seems to me he was feeding
the vanity of the rich and powerful
and at the same time making fun of them
but it was more titillation
of their humungous egos

the elite did not learn anything
from the wisdom or folly
they don't laugh at themselves
they only enjoy seeing
the poor people starve

but Bukowski did not like Shakespeare
because Shakespeare was insufferable to read

BUK, and neither did I much, though William came up with some good riffs that held attention for a few hundred years, which is rare in the human river it seems..

Shakespeare may be best remembered for the memes that filtered through the mass of verbiage. We few, we happy few...

Yeah I wonder what those memes really are, I thought it was interesting that a poet like Bukowski mentioned about not liking Shakespeare in a poem, he did not like a lot of writers. But who knows what he really thought about Shakespeare.
