the first time Kerouac smoked pot

Post by cmoore » June 11th, 2017, 12:59 pm

the first time Jack smoked pot
it was given to him by a jazz musician
now his words came out jazz like
he now saw the world through pot and jazz
you can see it in his writing, you can feel it
hear the jazz in his voice

Jack crossed that line, into the black sound
the pot opened up the sound and made it feel
like you could see it, see the notes dance
on the air, the bebop was alive
it went against the establishment
it made people feel like they could be artists
and poets

Jack gave that freedom to explore
to groove on the music in the poetry
the Beat generation took us out of the small
mindedness of the fifties

the first time I smoked pot I listened to jazz
on the FM radio and I entered the jazz universe
I think the poet in me came out that day
on my seventeenth birthday and jazz made it

Pretty much. And that's why the various power structures around the planet have tried to keep the herb illegal. Let's not have too many people plugging into deeper grooves of earth while we're trying to rule and extract from it.

Jazz and drugs have along history and Jack took jazz and aspects of it into his writing. Good capture. 8)

i dunno
the first time was not as good as the second time
maybe that is a woman thing
reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---

The first time I tried to get high on pot I got two joints
from the two hoods at my high school
because I did not anybody that had pot
or got high, the joints were seeds and stems
I did not get high, the second time I got two
hand rolled joints from a girl in my art class
I went home and went in the bathroom
and smoked the two joints, my parents were not home
I got nicely high, so the next time was about a week later
and I got high with the girl that had given me the joints
and another friend of mine, there were two other people
there that I did not know, we got high together
and had a wonderful time

My first time wasn't especially memorable either. I was looking for a high similar to alcohol's, and not finding it.

I was an avid fan of guitarist John McLaughlin in those days, and followed his work religiously - until he unplugged and toured with a band of Indian musicians called Shakti. I was hugely disappointed when I heard their 1st LP (1975 or -76?). I'd play it occasionally, note the virtuosity, but never really dug it - until the day my wife left me home alone unsupervised one day. I rolled & smoked a fattie, played the LP - and this time I heard the fucking music. It blew me away. And it wasn't just the weed talkin', because I heard the music the next day, too. It was merely a catalyst, something to help me over a perceptual blockage. Once heard, the music couldn't be unheard. By this time, the band had issued two more LPs. I ordered them sight unseen/sound unheard, and loved them, especially their last, "Natural Elements".

the first time Kerouac smoked weed
he did it 'cause he loved it, indeed
the first time Kerouac smoked pot
he took it for everything it got
the first time Kerouac ever smoked
he took a toke and then another toke

shrug
it ain't a drug
it's just a plant
not a tropical
or a succulent
not an perennial
or an eventual
conclusion or guess

It's nature, and who wants nature interfering with plans of conquering nature..

Funny how he called it 'tea'. I guess it has been awhile..

Yeah, it's had so many different names. Tea, pot, reefer, herb, bud, weed, so many more. Changes with the era, I guess.

Kids these days laugh when people call it "pot". They all call it weed.
