Father's Day

Post by beekay » June 18th, 2017, 11:21 am

I cannot write about my father.
Not yet.
Not while his life is a pale shadow
Behind the blinding glare of death
That floods my mind.
Sh’ma, Israel

I cannot find the words
To tell the world
Of his gentle soul
And generous heart
And boundless love
for those about him.
Adonoi, Eluhainu

I cannot find the voice
To rail against my pain,
To beg God, selfishly,
To send him back
From where he is free of his.
Adonoi, Echod

I cannot see the words
He left to me
Until darkness and rain pass,
Dying words from father to son:
“I hope I can be your guardian angel”.
Nor, can I tell him now
That he always was.
Amen

moving poem, beekay...!
My mother said something similar some days before dying that could be translated as something like: "I love you, I´ll take care of all of you always but don´t hang on me (no me tironeen) , I will also have other things to do..." Kind of astonished me at that moment (nearly 20 years ago) but now as I remember it, it makes me smile ...

Thanks, friends. It's sad how casually we accept the presence of someone we love in our lives, until they're gone. I remember telling Pop, before he died, that he was the best man I ever knew. It was true then. It's true now...

That's wonderful that you had the opportunity to tell him that! ... Beautiful!
