rain
rain
rain...
not the nurturing kind
nor the kind
that sends you running
for shelter and safety...
nor even the kind
watched with dejection
from an upstairs window
chin glumly in hand...
this rain
Hypnos
a quiet voice
from the preternatural gloom
of midday dusk
mesmerizing
a murmured lullaby
urging sleep
quiet percussive rhythms
on the skylight
and the foliage without
that lull
sedate
and compel the animal within
to curl up in its burrow
and estivate
leaving the rain
to complete its nameless task
not the nurturing kind
nor the kind
that sends you running
for shelter and safety...
nor even the kind
watched with dejection
from an upstairs window
chin glumly in hand...
this rain
Hypnos
a quiet voice
from the preternatural gloom
of midday dusk
mesmerizing
a murmured lullaby
urging sleep
quiet percussive rhythms
on the skylight
and the foliage without
that lull
sedate
and compel the animal within
to curl up in its burrow
and estivate
leaving the rain
to complete its nameless task

I like this. You capture it, the emotion. The poem soaks the reader with its---with what?----poetry----that's for sure. Thumbs up.

How do you delete a comment post. My computer is acting up----plus I often don't know what I'm doing. I wanted to make a comment and I did but I didn't want the same comment to appear 4 times. Once is sufficient. How do you delete the other 3 ?

But you should have an option to edit, including delete.- judih)

Judih, thanks. I have an edit button but don't see any "Delete" button, unless You just have to back space everything you wrote. I was looking for a "Delete" button. Hopefully I won't have that problem much.
Note: I saw the X when I was going to submit this particular message but not in my previous messages. If you edit something, does that eliminate the possibility of deleting it later----the whole message? I wish that Delete button would always be an option.
Note----the x stayed with this message. I'm not deleting this, though it is an administrative and not commentary.

Re: rain
I like the kind of personification of the rain...as if another entity, not unlike yourself at any given moment....in any given mood....well done...

Re: rain
I think that the song “ I can’t stand the rain” is so perfect
This is yet another brilliant tribute to rain
I think the rain goddess is beautiful

reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---
