for ballpoint pens
why
would I believe
this is so important
why
would i try so often
to lay it all down
bits of hopeful bubbling lava
on scraps of paper
feels like an addiction
like even if i decided not to
ink would rain on me
my hand would rise up
move back and forth
up and down like a cobra
released from his basket
tongue flicking wannabe poet
venom on the verge
something inspirational
and so it has gone
from youthful soul
to long in the tooth
my serpentine struggle
this wriggling in the grass
