enough

Post by saw » September 21st, 2023, 8:40 am

she was talkin' 'bout love
like you talk about the weather
in ways that diminish the brunt of feelings

you couldn't dig too deep
though I knew she felt more than just the rain,
she was protecting her heart

and so it was I played along
never one to turn down a good game of hide and seek
we ran through the fog and also the bite of winter

this is a short story wrapped up as a poem
no right, no wrong, only tears of joy
sometimes we may want more.... but settle for enough
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Been doing a lot of retrospection myself, lately - I suppose it's natural, now that we're more viscerally aware that the end of our journey is approaching - time to look back & see where we've been, wondering what (if anything) it all meant - no regrets, no what-ifs - stuffing what we've collected over the years into a travel bag, pausing now & again to reflect on particular items: "wasn't THAT a time!", & "she was quite the character"... no one's going to write our biographies, build our monuments but us... we've gotta do that ourselves... little time capsules left behind for... whom?

"I was here..."

something happens when putting down thoughts into words that is different from merely thinking those thoughts

in may be simply reading them as opposed to thinking them.....but for me it helps solidify the amorphous

if it's possible to romanticize endings, then writing helps me do it.
what begins tends to end, like it or not. I like looking at my past self experiencing stuff, thinking that the feelings then would never lessen.
Today I can romanticize that self's egocentric attitude. Ah, yes to that beginning and maybe after writing about it, I can see its end.
