High Desert Haiku

Post by sooZen » March 29th, 2017, 9:38 am

windows rattle
next to my chair
I quake

...

old chinaberry tree
splits in the wind
destiny

...

cold winds
even the blossoms
are fools

...

prayer flags
the wind horse
takes flight

...

who cares?
not the mountain
awash in dust

...

the sound of the wind
makes me wish
...for deafness!

...

I sit
watching trees
do yoga

...

exercising haiku skills
when all else blows
little letters scatter
across the page
Freedom's just another word...

thank you for writing that :D

I wish I could do as well
but I got blinded by thoughts
fall into abstraction

Thanks Jack...! One thing I do is to remember/strive to keep my haiku in the present moment and surgically remove the non-essential (ala Reps). Writing effective haiku is perhaps the most difficult form of poetry (being simple isn't simple) and it helps me to do so after meditation/yoga (it clears my mind). Still a student, still learning, practice makes perfection... ;)

haiku is like gold
few words carrying much weight
and thus worth so much

he laughs
politics on the tube
I shudder

...

the chill
seeps through my socks
hello down there!

...

dawn
the bare branches
caress the sky

...

one eyed finch
a pirate comes to the feeder
aye eye capt'n!

...

my old neighbor lights
cedar logs in his fireplace
he lives for today...

...
Freedom's just another word...
