july 31st
It's green here.
Huge trees, lush lawns.
Early morning walks and musicals that i don't hear back home on the kibbutz.
Sudden deer standing like statues watching my progress past their position.
Squirrels posing, scampering, tails floating in their lighter than air ballets.
Rabbit appears in the same spot as yesterday, tail delicately turning away.
Thick smell of fragrant soil. A quick glimpse of how it must have been before houses were carved into the forest. How i love forest.
Thoughts of global warming, stubborn human nature to ignore warning, yet here i am, enjoying this present moment. The gift to be here is a welcome change of vibe.
Here, there is life as usual, no immediate threat. Global warming - people ignoring peak sun hours. They aren't trained to stay out of sun's way. Summer here is a season, not a 10 month life style.
It smells so fine. A dog barks. A thick haired husky who does well amongst the trees.
Afraid to check the news, i check the news.
Then, feeling restless and unable to influence world rhythms, i wait for the sun to go down and walk once more. Kilometres turn to miles in a nation of feet and yards.

Mad MagazineWe don’t want no foreign rulers,
Two weeks of spring, a month of winter, two weeks of fall in South TexasSummer here is a season, not a 10 month life style.
“You just can’t live in texas unless you got a lot of soul
That’s why we sent Bush to Washington.
I loved CT what I saw of it.
Those fields of tobacco surprised me.
I check the news
I have no idea what is happening
Thinking the unthinkable
It’s a tough job
Somebody has got to do it
Glad it ain’t me.
Changing my rhythm
Marching in a different band
You influenced me
Thank you sister
Your cinnamon stud.

hello all, good morning/afternoon
i'm here till August 15th.
my day is simple: wake up early - anywhere from 4:30 - 5:30. Tea. Exercise, shower, wake up G, take an hour walk, back home. Coffee ceremony. Some bran cake. Real shower. Big salad. Day begins.
That part is very sweet. Just delicious.
Being with my sister is equally sweet. Seeing the dynamics of local culture is less so.
Class differences. Racism. Elitism. The shopping culture.
How many Dunkin' Donuts are there, question my niece and nephew.
G and i are ourselves. We look at the very real fulfillment of the American Dream for many people and we wonder how many people feel fulfilled.
We took a ride to a local lake. We took the trail that few took and lo and behold, we ran (or rather i ran) into a bee's nest. Up high in a tree, i'd been watching the trail to keep my footing and smack into a bee was me.
Got stung - now i remember past forest hikes in my life in this geography so many years ago. The smell of mosquito and green and good walking sticks lying around for the taking.
And then came the truth. The tried and true trail would have taken us around the lake in orderly fashion in countable steps. Our trail was the more exciting - of that i'm sure.
Brown rice, lentils, salads. Salmon. Fruit. Food is delicious. We're cooking.
i'm learning again how one cooks. On the kibbutz, i never have to cook except for my needed brown rice and salads. Here, there is no common dining room. Cooking requires me. Luckily, i make a fine sous-chef while G oversees.
Two more weeks.
There will be treks to Manhattan, but not yet. The heat wave makes it all the nicer to stay close to the forest.
i'm reading When Things Fall Apart, Pema Chodron. Wireman likes her and i see why.
9:24 a.m. Tuesday, August 1st.
wonder if Doreen and L-rod are recovered from the excitement.

payback?
more like cause and effect. everything's connected.
someone gets rich here, someone has a little less there.
with TV and the Net, people can see distant cousins stepping into limousines while they themselves re-use their own refuse to heat a small hut.
unfair distribution. unfair usage of the planet's wealth.
cause and effect.

Edward HirschThere is someone else ’ s misery in every dollar we earn .
It is Lebanon's back yard where the shit is comimg down.
Israel has traded for prisioners and pow's before why the heavy shit this time? Bush gave a speech in Miami, got a chance to connect the dots between 9/11 and the war on Lebanon. Those thugs in Lebanon take their marching orders from Syria, so says Tom Friedman in the NYTIMES.
It is all connected. I think Mel Gibson said something like that last week.
Yes I give Israel much admiration for its socialism. Now if WE all could get over OUR racism. I believe in the right of return for holocaust survivors and their children. F*ck those american jews that want to go to Israel so they can shoot Arabs. The right of return, too bad the Palestinians don't get it too. But you know the Bible makes it pretty clear who belongs there and who don't. If I did not love the poetry in it, I would burn my Bible today.
Sorry about the cinnamon stud comment. You know I was joking Just something you said on a GO
I hope you and G enjoy your visit. I hope it will all be over soon
