Glass Elevators
Risking nothing but
the height of my own
amazement, I cling to brass
railings in a glass elevator,
as sure of the security
of cables as I am of
the fall.
Adam was teased
by a tree of knowledge.
I am pleased with the
reasoning that what
comes down, must
go up.
Being of sound mind,
I rise above myself repeatedly
because I am wise enough
to let myself down
easily over and over
again.
This is how I elevate
myself to new levels,
approaching each landing
as if it were a promotion.
If you pay attention to
the architecture of ideas,
you can blast through the
roof of a midrise and tower
over where you were before
you had a mind to ride
rather than take
the stairs.
It's all in your head.
There are many
floors up there.

what a work of art is (wo)man
structured rythms
horizontals not allowed
verticals and diagonals all around
spaces to wander in and explore
one wonders
why not more of this and less of that?
the fat cat monopoly of politic?
the dog starved at his master's gate?
and yet the state of architecture was never better
for those with eyes and hoped unfettered
and undeterred
by lofty sights
and dreams deferred.
Adam and Eve cast out from the garden
had to work and feed their children.
and so do we.
the mythis gentle giants of long ago memories
appear in our days
and pull us up to greater grace.
