Definition: A nickname sometimes attributed to the Hogan Assessment Systems suite of inventories and reports.

Before hiring someone, wouldn't you like to know if the person is easy to manage, strives for success, works well with others, builds good customer relationships, follows through on assignments, offers innovative ideas, and thoroughly learns your business?

Before investing in the development of employees, wouldn't you like to know more about their strengths, weaknesses, potential, preferred learning methods, perhaps even their core values and motivations?
I used to believe in Santa Claus. Every Xmas I would ask Santa for a job with Yellow Freight. Not just a job, but a job with twenty years seniority. Then one year Yellow called me in for a job interview. But they told me I would have to take a Hogan test. I didn’t know what it was, I thought maybe it was some kind of road test.
Well I was not worried because:
“I been warped by the rain, driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty, don't you know
But I'm still willin'

Out on the road late last night
I'd see my pretty Alice in every headlight
Alice, Dallas Alice

And I've been from Tucson to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonopah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
.”

I did not get the job because I failed the test. It was a True/False kind of test. Three questions I remember I got wrong.
I answered true to them
1) I know how to use a microscope?
2) I know why stars twinkle?
3) People can often feel my power?

You see me as arrogant

I see myself as an ignorant child

Earth's atmoshpere maybe? I don't think they twinkle in space.

Dam I wanted that job. They put me through such a dog and pony show.

I suppose I must have guessed wrong. I said false to the question about power. There were a couple tough ones that I could not figure out. Like, "I enjoy breaking the rules" and "I like to take chances."

They don't want someone to work for them who feels too powerful.

They do want someone to work for them who knows how to use a microscope.

They don't want someone to work for them who enjoys breaking the rules.

It's iffy whether they want someone to work for them who likes to take chances. Not sure about that one.

Sorry you didn't get the job.

A week after I took the test they closed the terminal in Verona. I have no idea why they were recruiting when they were getting ready to close the doors.

Sometimes things are over. The end of the road was hard for me to take. But I like to type. As close as I can get to it these days.

The Teamsters was good to me.
