no bad days lookin' at art
went to amsterdam 2009
van gogh museum blew my mind
I had seen the paintings in books
but standing there made me weep
his periods of madness hit you
like he's reaching out from the grave
went to picaasso museum,
museum de orsay, the louvre
the national museum in munich
franz marc's museum bavaria
rode the trains, stayed in the hostels
drank coffee on cobblestone streets
absinthe in montmartre in the same cafes
as the greats and I was elevated
by the magic in the hills, the voices
of the dead, the sketch artists dna
lucky man is me, had a little dough saved
and flew across the pond
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

WTMD
playin' all the right shit
I think I must have been willin'
the DJ to spin what I needed
or at least it felt pretty damn good
James Browns horns
changed my whole attitude
funk for the melancholy
should be a valid genre
but never seen at the grammies
with the afro pop and the cowboy punk
maybe that's because it's therapeutic
so then maybe at least a few doctors ought know
about this treatment
i reach for my George Clinton CD
Parliament
Funkadelic
you feel it ?
OK then.....Here

"Do not attempt to adjust your radio,
we have taken control... we will return it
to you as soon as you are grooving.

Welcome to station W-E-F-U-N-K,
deeper still, the Mothership Connection,
Coming to you directly from the Mothership
Top of the Chocolate Milky Way, so kick back,
dig, while we do it to you in your eardrums."

-- George Clinton, circa 1975.

just as poignant
like sitting on a tack
remember that cruel
teacher trick back in the day
edwin starr 1969
WAR...what is it good for
an anthem for eternity it seems
'cause weeeze in the biz
of making killing implements
and that Trumps all...59 Tomahawks
that's just the beginning
nukeaholic breath in my face
you crazy fucks...you bible thumpin'
maniacs with an armageddon complex
y'all think yer so god damn right
and you're really imbeciles with toys
Einstein sed, the dif 'tween
stupidity and genius is
there's a limit to genius
sing wit me

been playing the hell
out of this Live String Cheese album
Lowell Massachusetts 2002
3 discs
like tripping without the mushrooms
it's a natural high baby
deeper and deeper I sink
into the groove, round and round
like our beloved vinyl, oh man
now that's the groove and it's only one,
set down the needle and go for a ride
stare at the artwork, dig it
That's Life....like Frankie said
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

sing your camel to bed
oh Maria, fiddling goddess
string cheese likened to dead
can see that......
way past midnight, 3am.
the owl hoots, turns it head a 360
an unseasonable chill
upon the land, yet I feel
it's gonna end
sounds of silence, a hummmm.....
there's an occasional sound of
stragglers, drunken noise makers
late into the night
the bars all closed
their cleaning for brunch
somewhere the party continues
while I enjoy my revery
me I feel like I'm becoming some kinda Kung fu t.v. Priest.....

burnin' that wee hour oil
a metaphor B4 electricity
lost in thought, the strings
of the cheese and the violin
the guitar, the mandolin, the bass
our friends the instruments of comfort
the voices of Ms. Muldaur, Ms. Ronstadt
Stone Ponies romping through the mind
across Pure Prairie League, Seals and Crofts
seals the deal as we sink ever deeper
into our past knowing it helps today
Da Tunes, Da Tunes, Da lifeblood
Miles helps us 'cross the miles
Louie Louie we call out
Duane Eddy leaves a twang in our mouth
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Used to live in the "house of love"..
our watercolors & acrylics on the walls,
Two chefs living with me, life was good,
the food, fun and parties, holy sheet those
restaurant people can party their ass off.
I mixed tapes with Traffic, Isley Brothers,
Beck, Earl King, Sublime, Neville Brothers,
Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder, the P-Funk,
Sheryl Crowe (hey it was the 90s), even the
Dead here & there, Marley, etc. etc...

Then they all got married,
and that was the end of that...

Neil and Crazy Horse
(even if it was after his best work)
I remember that song, 'fucking up'
"Dogs that lick, and dogs that bite..."
"Keys left hangin' in a swingin' door..."
Yeah, a lot of music under the bridge..

how many roads must a young man walk
to reach Nirvana, or Dr. John
Just saw Bill Kirchen 2 weeks ago
Ramshead Annapolis, the master
of the telecaster, continuous playing
since he was a teenager, then hooked on
with Commander Cody....can still wail man
he was tearin' it up...I've seen Santana,
The Who, Stones twice, The Animals
and Eric Burden separately...oh so many shows
lots of blues concerts, cats been on that road
i was talkin' about for 60 years...never made a ton
of money, but always did what they wanted to do
saw Black Sabbath...poor Ozzy a mere shell
of his former self, but hey, once again.. just like
Frankie, he did it his way
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
