first vegetable garden in decades
just seemed like the time was right
had some old timbers to build the raised beds
that would, with any luck, raise the crops
built a trellis for my sugar snap peas
the tomatoes look happy as do the hot peppers
the marigolds dissuade some of the bugs
the egg shells too sharp for slugs
the dr, bronners and cayenne deter many
I pick the eggs of the cabbage moths
by looking under the leaves, the bamboo
chimes sing in the breeze, my adirondack
gets it's fair share of use, I water and coo
my green friends to cooperate
sanctuary, sanctuary I thought she said
the blonde woman with the pretty face

The feel
of the way
wrapped in
the wire, lost
within or without
all the same, curved
or even straight,
doesn't matter if your
getting in the zone, yes
I'm talking about flying
to the heights mon....

the Zone
be it the page
the viewfinder
or a length of wire
more than a state of mind
a state of Being
flying
with the gods
crackling
with energy
tapping
into the Power
within

Mount Monadnock
reflected in the lake
a loon flits past
the distant bang
of a kayak's paddle
against the hull
someone laughing
someone else pounding a nail
the clatter of a winch
at the boat ramp
the dog wades aimlessly
up to his knees
lapping up
the pollen-covered water
I say his name
he looks up
wags his tail
trots onto shore
and stops beside me
expectantly
awaiting his treat
